Music Festivals Rhythm & Noon Concert Series
May Through August. Held every Friday in Miller Plaza from May through August, the Rhythm & Noon series features musical performances by an eclectic mix of community and regional artists entertain lunchtime audiences with concerts in jazz, swing, choral, pop, blues and classical styles.
Nightfall Concert Series
May Through October This summer-long program, presented free to the public, is held every Friday evening from Memorial Day weekend through the first weekend in October, at Miller Plaza in Downtown Chattanooga. Now in its 18th season, the series features headline performances from world-class musicians and is known for bringing a variety of up-and-coming artists to the stage as opening acts. Past performers include Alison Krauss, Barenaked Ladies, Doc Watson and The Impressions.
Swing Fest
September A perfect way to end the summer, Swingfest features four 1-hour performances by some of Chattanooga’s largest swing orchestras, showcasing many accomplished local professional musicians, music teachers and band directors, and featuring well known performers at Coolidge Park. Everyone is invited to bring a blanket and enjoy the cross section of traditional and contemporary arrangements of jazz and swing, including the popular music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Glen Miller. A wooden dance floor will be set up in front of the stage to encourage every generation of attendees to demonstrate their love of swing dancing.
Chattanooga Homecoming Jazz Festival
Spring Created by the Philadelphia Jazz Association under the direction of native Chattanoogan Tony Williams, this four-day celebration features both local and national artists at Bessie Smith Hall and Roland Concert Hall on the UTC campus. All of the proceeds from the festival go towards scholarships for local budding musicians and artists to receive professional training. Package or individual performance tickets may be purchased at the Chattanooga African-American Museum.
Riverbend
2nd Week In June One of the most renowned music festivals in the Southeast, Riverbend is an impressive nine-day event, taking place every June, along the banks of the Tennessee River in Downtown Chattanooga. The family-oriented festival features every type of music imaginable, on six stages, including a floating barge main stage on the river. The festival includes several special events and programs like the Bessie Smith Strut, a Children’s Village, aerial skydiving acts and a spectacular fireworks finale. Tickets can be purchased up to a month in advance at locations throughout the city.
