Family Chattanooga Choo Choo
Originally opened as Terminal Station in 1909, the landmark made famous by the 1940s swing band hit is now a 30-acre mini-vacation complex that includes a model railroad exhibit, specialty shops, restaurants, Victorian gardens and a train tour of the grounds with commentary by a knowledgeable conductor.
Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park
The most recent phase of a planned $9.3 million expansion of this accredited urban zoo is the Himalayan Forest. This habitat will be home to two red pandas, two snow leopards and some munpjacs (small Asian deer). The WP Ranch, a children’s petting zoo including camels, goats, and other kid-friendly mammals, was completed in fall 2003.
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park
This strategic Civil War setting is visited by over 900,000 visitors each year. It commemorates the bloodiest two-day battle of the Civil War, fought at Chickamauga, Georgia, just outside Chattanooga; and the Battle of Chattanooga. The area offers miles of paths featuring markers and monuments placed by states after the war. The visitor center offers an informative multimedia presentation that provides historical context for the sites, and houses the Fuller Gun Collection, containing 355 weapons.
Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park
Family fun amusement park with classic rides, including the Cannon Ball wooden roller coaster, games and a full summer schedule of concerts at the Jukebox Junction.
Lookout Mountain Incline Railway
Board this century-old railway trolley in St. Elmo and travel 'America's Most Amazing Mile' up the side of Lookout Mountain to arrive near historic Point Park. The breathtaking 72.7% grade of the track near the top gives the Incline the unique distinction of being the steepest passenger railway in the world.
Rock City
Located atop Lookout Mountain in Walker County, GA., this marvel of nature features ancient rock formations, gardens, and panoramic views. See famed Lovers Leap, Fat Man's Squeeze, the Swinging Bridge, and Mother Goose Village.
Ruby Falls
This underground cave, formerly used by American Indians and outlaws, features a 145-foot natural waterfall. The cave itself contains Andrew Jackson's signature. Entrance is located on Lookout Mountain.
Tennessee Aquarium & IMAX (r) 3D Theatre
The world's largest freshwater aquarium showcases the great rivers of the world as well as changing exhibits. The new Ocean Journey addition invites visitors to begin their journey at the tree and shrub-filled Discover Garden, where bamboo sharks and several species of rays swim in four, three-foot high “touch tanks,” allowing daring patrons to “pet the fish.” From the touch tanks, follow a path down to the butterfly exhibit, leading into the 500,000-gallon saltwater ecosystem. This massive tank includes a walk-in tunnel for viewers to get as close as possible to the tiger sharks, parrotfish, crevaljacks, sea turtle and many more species. Chattanooga Nature Center
The Discovery Treehouse on the Blue Heron Boardwalk is the newest addition to the center that serves as an educational resource on the animals and habitats of the Southeast as well as partnering of Reflection Riding.
